Enrollment at Other Colleges and Universities

Concurrent enrollment is the awarding of UCR credit for any course taken at another college or university while a student is simultaneously enrolled at UCR.

Concurrent enrollment must be approved in advance by the appropriate associate college dean for undergraduate students or the graduate division dean for graduate students.

University Extension Programs

UCR Concurrent Enrollment

Members of the public may take regular UCR courses without formal admission to UCR through the UCR-University Extension concurrent enrollment program. Enrollment is limited to space available after all matriculated UCR students have been accommodated. Should a student later matriculate at UCR, grade points and units for courses taken via the concurrent enrollment program will be credited to the UCR transcript, effective Spring 1999. Students with a prior UCR matriculation must have the advance approval of the associate dean of the UCR college, division, or school in which they were last enrolled. Courses taken via the concurrent enrollment program are recorded with an "XRC" on the Extension transcript.

Transferable Extension Courses

Students with a prior UCR matriculation may occasionally earn credit toward bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of California by transferring course work taken through University Extension. These students must have the advance approval of the associate dean of the UCR college in which they were last enrolled or the dean of the Graduate Division for graduate students. Only those courses recorded on the Extension transcript with a prefix of "X" or "XR" may be transferred to UCR. Only units will be transferred to the UCR record; grade points for these courses are not transferable to UCR.

Students who enroll through University Extension receive limited access to campus services. They must adhere to all policies and regulations regarding student conduct and discipline as outlined in the University of California, Riverside General Catalog and in this schedule. Cross Registration

The Cross Registration Program between UCR and California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) enables full time undergraduate UCR students with an officially declared major and in good academic standing to enroll for a maximum of one course per academic term at CSUSB. The program is designed for students to take classes not available at UCR. Advance approvals from the student's academic advisor, associate dean of the appropriate college, and the Registrar are required. Cross registration application forms are available at the Highlander One Stop Shop (HOSS) on the first floor of the Student Services Building.

Cross Enrollment

The California Education Code Sections 66750 through 66756, commonly referred to as Senate Bill 1914 (Killea), permits undergraduate students enrolled in any campus of the California Community Colleges, the California State University, or the University of California to enroll without formal admission in a maximum of one course per academic term at a campus of either of the other systems on a space-available basis at the discretion of the appropriate campus authorities on both campuses. At University of California campuses, the beginning of the third week of instruction has been designated as the date by which an instructor can determine when space is available to accommodate a student seeking to enroll on this basis. (Normally instructors in all segments permit students to attend classes until their final course registration has been certified.) Cross enrollment at another campus within the same system is excluded, as is enrollment in precollegiate courses. Students who seek to cross enroll under this program must have met all of the following requirements:

  1. Completed at least one term at their home campus as a matriculated student
  2. Enrolled for a minimum of 6 units at their home campus for the current term
  3. Earned a cumulative GPA of 2.00
  4. Paid appropriate fees and any applicable tuition at their home campus for the current term
  5. Completed appropriate academic preparation for the desired course, as determined by the host campus, consistent with the standards applied to regularly enrolled students
  6. Have been classified as a California resident by their home campus

Simultaneous Enrollment

Undergraduate students may enroll, without formal admission and without payment of additional university fees, in courses at another UC campus on a space-available basis at the discretion of the appropriate campus authorities on both campuses.

A student is qualified for simultaneous enrollment if the student has met all of the following requirements:

  1. Completed a minimum of 12 units as a matriculated student at the home campus
  2. Enrolled for a minimum of 6 units for the current term at the home campus
  3. Is in good standing
  4. Has the appropriate academic preparation as determined by the host campus
